Beau Geste, 2009

Beau Geste, 2009

The owner of one vacant lot had made a deep, fatal notch in this palm tree, a Phoenix Canariensis, and was waiting for it to fall.
Then he could build on his lot. The action -- inspired by the diggers movement and the 1939 epic film starring Gary Cooper -- set out to interrupt or delay this process.
The phrase «beau geste» from the French, means a gracious fine gesture, often characterized by futility.
